This drum-shaped thumb piano was commissioned by a little girl - it was supposed to be "rainbow colors and shaped like a drum." I added a fish skin to the bottom of the instrument to warm up the tone - the result is a mellow, echoy resonance that is very pleasing. The instrument can be played by holding it between your legs and resting the top of the instrument on your thighs, or by turning the kalimba over and playing the bottom like a regular hand drum. This design offers a lot of musical possibilities.
